Since 1997, the Mentor Program has continued to inspire and enhance the educational experience of MCNY students. We motivate our peers to strive towards academic, professional and personal excellence and support their academic, career, and personal development. We are "Students Coaching Students for Success."
Who We Are
Made up of a carefully selected group of current students and alumni of the College, mentors act as resource persons, coaches, motivators, and confidants, helping to make the transition to college life a smooth one. They are available to provide academic coaching, guidance and support to students at the College. Mentors are current or graduate students of MCNY, Presidential Scholars, Dean's List recipients, Who's Who in American University and Colleges students, National Honor Society recipients, Advisory Council Members, and faculty and staff.
What We Do
Our primary objective is to facilitate a seamless transition to college by providing an experienced and patient mentor. Through this dynamic pairing, MCNY students grow in confidence in their overall ability to succeed in college. In addition to providing leadership skills, the program affords mentors the opportunity to develop on an academic, personal, and professional level, while adding a distinctive and marketable skill to their resumes.
The Mentor Program is not for just anyone. It is for those students who have demonstrated a dedication to empowering both themselves and their fellow peers as reflected by their academic performance and leadership in the classroom. Being a mentor is primarily about helping others, and for that reason, the desire to help others is the core characteristic of a mentor. If you enjoy helping others, and have demonstrated a dedication to empowering yourself as a student, we invite you to attend the open house so that you may learn how the Mentor Program can further your potential, promote the achievement of your goals, and make your experience at MCNY even more rewarding.
